Gallente Gerbil Driver Unfortunately, this can only be wielded by heavies, due to the added weight of the over-sized shoulder-sling ammo clip. Inside is a state-of-the-art mobile Gerbil cloning facility with a 10x clone capacity before overheating. Clearly, this is another reason to only carry this weapon on an armor-based heavy, due to potential overheat damage. Once the source Gerbil has been cloned, tiny fragments of anti-matter are violently placed into any one available Gerbil cavity (RNG determines the spawn orientation of the Gerbil, thereby dictating which orifice receives the charge). Because of this RNG, direct damage output has a range between 175-375 with splash damage at a constant 90. Once all 10 clones have been depleted, you have the option to use the one remaining original Gerbil for no-win solutions. If you find yourself surrounded by a squad of reds with no support or supply depot within reach, activating the secondary function will load all remaining anti-matter material into your Gerbil through ALL cavities in order to make the most out of your Gerbil's storage capacity. This final round will not be fired, so weight is not a factor. The device will then inject pure carbonated Quafe into the sealed ammo chamber, encapsulating the Gerbil in a volatile liquid suspension. Finally, the entire weapon begins to shake violently, agitating the Gerbil and carbonation within until combustion. The pressure from this explosion combined with the destruction of the unnamed heavy soldier, creates a blast radius of 115m.
The Gallente Gerbil Driver is intended for close-quarter combat due to the inherent bounce-and-roll qualities of the biological ammo, making this weapon ideal for corner and corridor breaching scenarios. Long range fire is possible with this variant, however, damage is all but removed at longer ranges due to ammunition degradation and eventual disintegration through sheer velocity and atmospheric resistance. For long range encounters, the weapon best serves as flak-inducing counter-measures for tactical distraction and evasion.
Projectile trajectory is relatively constant and flat, given the speed and limited falloff range, therefore standard MD aiming sites are replaced with a simple iron sight for general reference only.
Variant Caldari spies have re-purposed this technology for longer range guerrilla-style engagements. Instead of Gerbils, the Caldari variant uses smaller and lighter Hamster projectiles. This new ammo type allows for a max clone capacity of 15 units, but with roughly half the damage output compared to its Gallente counterpart. To increase range and falloff accuracy, Caldari engineers removed selected internal heat shielding panels within the cloning module. Doing so, allows radioactive venting from the weapon's power core to enter the cloning chamber, incinerating any exposed fur from the Hamster's flesh. This process allows for more aerodynamic projectile flight and greatly increases both range and targeting accuracy.
The Caldari Hamster Driver is best used as long-range crowd dispersion and/or suppression fire. Due to the extended survivability of the more refined and hairless Hamster ammo type, even longer ranges are achievable through arcing trajectories and slower rate-of-fire travel velocity. This makes the Caldari variant perfect for clearing sniper nests or the ever-prevalent roof-top camping squad.
